4th class

woahhh..can't believe i finally have time to blog...after i gone through all the crazy working time with my other courses' assignments and readings!

I thought the assessment test that i did about the organizational culture helped me to realize I'm a relationship-oriented person, because i would like to work in teams that's effective and happy...and not as tense or task-oriented. But i still believe that working on tasks seriously is important...but i always wanted each member to feel that we are all here to help each other out; but not pointing out each others' weaknesses or things they did wrong. Because i remember when i was first year in University; i had to work on a project with people that i didn't know very well...it was quite horrible, because one person was so ambitious and self-centered...so he assigned orders to everyone because he felt that whatever proposals/plans he arranges would turn out to be quality products. I can't deny he's very intelligent, but i just think that most members would feel valued or trusted if they can at least communicate as a group and share our own perspectives of cultures.

Hopefully i won't encounter what Mike did...but who knows?...i think i really have to understand the organization's cultures first and see if there is any conflicts with my own values or beliefs...and try to see if they can be improved! or i can merge both in and build a new culture. =) ...but i really prefer there's not just one specific set leader all the time...

*Also, Thanks Danielle for giving us more helpful info on how to think about some interview questions for our project! =)

Hi Janet, thanks for your posts...they are heading in the right direction. I liked your comment about the impact of an organization's culture on how you feel about working in groups (next week's lecture on motivation!). You are so correct in that observation. What I would like you to think about is the kind of culture you think you would like to work in to feel both appreciated and like you are making a valued contribution to the organization and it's goals. This will help you in your career project to answer the question: what type of culture do I need to work in to do my best work and to feel satisfied? I would like you to write at this level too.Take what you are doing and "kick it up a notch"....go for some of the implications of the insights you have. Ask yourself: "so what" and "now what"? So what did I learn about myself and now what am I going to do with that insight? In this way you will achieve a deeper learning experience and also demonstrate your analytical and critical thinking skills
Keep posting....you are on the right track!
best
